Cherry Angioma's
Cherry Angioma’s are harmless, but their first appearance can be distressing to our patients. Cherry angiomas are very common, appearing in almost everyone over the age of 50 at least once in their life. The blemishes are slightly red and raised and often appear on the face, midsection, arms and legs.
Removing Cherry Angioma's
Sometimes called a blood blister, cherry angiomas are known medically as Campbell de Morgan spots and in senior patients, senile angiomas.
A cherry angioma is a round, red lesion on the skin. The red colour can vary from very light to deep red, hence their name. Most are 2mm to 4mm in diameter and are completely benign.
Appearing as a result of a small area of overgrowth of blood and lymphatic vessels, cherry angiomas can appear alone or in groups. More can appear as you get older. They are found mostly on the cheek, chin, nose and forehead and less frequently on the chest and back.
Their appearance is not connected to excess sun exposure but their first appearance may give rise for concern. Because they are benign, they can be removed for cosmetic reasons by one of our qualified medical aesthetic practitioners in our central London clinic.
Several factors play a role in the development of cherry angiomas, these may include: the aging process, pregnancy, chemical exposures because of medication, or changes in your body’s chemistry. Regardless of the specific cause, they can be unsightly or uncomfortable and getting rid of them is a priority for many patients. Do not try to remove a cherry angioma at home, it’s a job for medical aestheticians and dermatological professionals, both expertise’s found at Eudelo.
If you are also experiencing itching, you may in fact have an allergy, acne or other skin condition that requires treatment. While there's no reason to worry, a cherry angioma won’t harm your health, it's natural to want to remove them.
Cherry angioma removal is generally not available on the UK NHS except for cherry angiomas that catch or bleed repeatedly. These are usually removed by curettage (cutting off) under local anaesthetic. The NHS will not provide treatment for cosmetic purposes. Get in touch with Eudelo to make an appointment and put your trust in our skilled medical aestheticians.
