Treating Milia
Tiny and superficial, milia are cysts that are made up of keratin which forms on the top layers of the skin. Some people mistake these cysts for acne, whiteheads or pus-filled blemishes, though they may not be.
It’s believed that adult milia is caused by the build-up of trapped keratin left over by dead skin cells which for whatever reason, hasn’t naturally fallen away. New skin grows over the old which then hardens. Other potential onsets to milia can be some other form of skin damage, such as the impact of taking steroids long-term, or due to a range of auto-immune conditions. Sometimes they simply appear and need to be removed!
